AKA - Twinberry.  This is a nice, great looking, and versatile Florida native that provides your landscape with fragrant flowers year-round, colorful berries, and evergreen leaves. Bees and butterflies enjoy this plant.  Its greenish fruit provides food for many bird species.  The berries turn bright reddish-orange as they mature.  While fruit is edible for humans, the seeds are quite bitter.  It can function as an ornamental shrub or a small tree depending on the cultivar and how you prune it.  It works great as a specimen or background shrub or grouped as a border, buffer or hedge. It is hardy and suitable for difficult areas where other plants may not do well. It is a perennial that likes moist to dry sandy or calcareous soils.  It does well in partial shade to full sun and grows from 3'-20' tall.  More sun exposure will contribute to a smaller form and will encourage more blooms. In the shade, Simpson’s stopper may grow taller and have a straggly, untidy appearance.
