Yayoi Kusama
The idea for the Illustrious Women series came to me in early 2017. It seemed there was a collective need to celebrate the feminine, and I wanted to draw attention to and educate myself about the many women who have gone before me- women who lived the lives they wanted to and bettered the world in the process. This prolific artist with her signature bright bob has created public and commercial art, sculpture, installations, illustration, painting, fashion poetry, novels, films, and performance art. She is well-known for her obsession with dots, which she has seen in hallucinations since childhood and which she uses to explore the idea of self-obliteration. Of her dot
