Rachel Carson
The idea for the Illustrious Women series came to me in early 2017. It seemed there was a collective need to celebrate the feminine, and I wanted to draw attention to and educate myself about the many women who have gone before me- women who lived the lives they wanted to and bettered the world in the process. Her most well-known book, Silent Spring, questioned the role of science and man in shaping the natural world and warned about the long-term dangers of pesticide use. She urged the public to consider the interdependence of all nature's systems and humans' impact upon them. Her work led to regulations upon the chemical industry and remains a cornerstone of the environmentalist movement.
