Music History & Aesthetics (elective)

Class Description:  This course is designed for 9th-12th grade students who want to develop a deeper understanding of artistic quality with a focus on Western music. This course will center on musical genres – orchestral, choral, chamber, operatic, and solo literature – with an emphasis on composer style, timeless quality, and Christian aesthetics. The goal of this course is to equip students to listen critically to both old and new music, to understand and knowledgeably discuss what qualities in music are reflective of God’s character, and therefore recognize what music is worthy of our admiration regardless of our personal taste.   Credits: 1 (Elective); Non-honors Pre-requisites: This course is for high school students only.
