Class Description:  As the English Reformation developed, Edmund Spenser crafted one of the greatest works of English literature. Though never finished, Spenser sought to teach English noblemen the importance of Christian virtue by an elaborate allegory of epic poetry. Through significant in-class readings and discussions, this course will build on Spenser’s goals to unfold how these timeless virtues apply to the believer’s life today. Course Objectives:  At the end of this course, the student will be able to: Identify the historical, political, and religious context surrounding this work Recite several sections from the Faerie Queene Write a chreia based on one of the Christian virtues within this poem Develop a persuasive paper concerning one aspect of the Faerie Queene Deliver a presentation connecting the virtues with contemporary Christian life Credits: 1 (Elective), Non-honors Pre-requisites: This course is for high school students only. Mtg. Days:  2 days each
