Schoolkids' Records

Steve Bergman opened his landmark Ann Arbor vinyl shop, Schoolkids' Records, at 523 E. Liberty St in May of 1976. It was the pinnacle of the days of well-staffed and hugely knowledgeable music loving employees who could wax poetic about any genre. They were early supporters of the NYC punk scene that was just starting and over the years there were in-store meet-ups with nationally-famous bands and musicians. These days, in the age of iTunes downloads and Spotify accounts, Bergman says "I was a brick-and-mortar guy interacting with customers.”
