EC Atkins No 53 Crosscut 12ppi -- Freshly Sharpened
This is a nice example of the EC Atkins No 53 from the 1910s when the handles had a higher style and were adorned with wheat carving. This particular saw suffered from damage to the toe of the plate, so it was shorted to 18 inches. This makes it particularly handy in the shop or as a tool box saw. The plate is shiny, clean, and straight, although the etch is too faint to read (as is tradition with Atkins saws). The handle is solid without any cracks. There is a chip from the top horn, though it will not affect function. The No 53 was one of Atkins' better saws, fitted with a Perfection handle made of apple wood and a highly polished plate. These saws are well made and very comfortable in the hand. The 12ppi crosscut teeth have been freshly sharpened: Tooth Type: crosscutRake Angle: 15ºFleam Angle: 20ºSlope Angle: 0ºTooth Set: 0.006"
