Edith Park Truesdell This 1977 acrylic on board abstracted landscape is by Derby, CT native Edith Park Truesdell (1888-1986). Truesdell lived for nearly a century as a noted painter, teacher, writer and poet. Her long life ran parallel to that of the first female American artist to achieve real fame; Georgia O’Keeffe. She was also the aunt, mentor and ally behind the seminal Bay Area Figurative painter, David Park (1911-1960), and her work profoundly influenced her nephew’s creative development. Truesdell was trained at the Boston Museum School under American Impressionists, Frank Weston Benson and Edmund C. Tarbell. Her deep engagement with figurative and landscape painting brought her solo shows at the Boston Museum, UCLA, the Copley Gallery in Boston, the Denver Public Library, the Monterey Peninsula Museum, the Carmel Art League, and a 1979 one-woman exhibition at the Pat Carey Gallery in San Francisco.
