WIlli Baumeister was a German painter, notable for his contribution to the genre of geometric abstraction, and is associated with the work of prominent figures such as Paul Klee and Fernand Leger. He studied art at the Stuttgart Academy in Germany, where he honed his craft under the tutelage of Adolf Hölzel and befriended Otto Meyer-Amden and Oskar Schlemmer. Through the use of block colors, floating forms, varied quality of line and layering, Baumeister formed a critical abstract language all his own.
