Gaétan Caron Entitled Étoile de la mer, this archival photo was taken of a digitally printed photograph wheat pasted to board and altered by the elements on the San Francisco gallery rooftop as part of Caron’s art installation, Ancestral. The original image is a detail of an Italian primitive painting taken at the Louvre in Paris, France. The photo is from the Mère et mer series by contemporary Mendocino/Bay Area artist, Gaétan Caron (b. 1964), co-founder of Lost Art Salon in San Francisco. This series is inspired by Gaétan's relationship with his mother as it provided him softness and creativity in life metaphorically represented by the ebb and flow of the sea. Gaétan lives and works in his off-the-grid home located in an heirloom orchard in the Mendocino hills of Northern California, a stone's throw from the wild California Coast.
