Gaétan CaronEntitled Sous les toits de Paris this archival photo is from the L'École de Paris en bleu, blanc, rouge series by contemporary Mendocino/Bay Area artist, Gaétan Caron (b. 1964), co-founder of Lost Art Salon in San Francisco. This photography series portrays the romanticism of the School of Paris, a very important art period during the first half of the 20th Century (1890-1940) when Paris was at the center of a creative intensity. Immigrant artists flocked to Paris then to work in tandem with French luminaries. Gaétan has always been fascinated with Paris being from Québec. That is where he discovered Modern art in his early twenties. For years, Gaétan has traveled to Paris to capture images of the past still very much present today: chairs, stairs, classrooms, studios, windows, benches, easels, stools, cafés where artists studied, sat, painted, worked and gathered to create.
