He was the artist behind the amazing illustrations in William Curtis' "Flora Londinenis" an important 18th century English botany book. Kilburn was also a designer of calico textile prints.  Kilburn's seaweed motifs were so iconic that he presented a dress in the pattern to Queen Charlotte! The reason his work feels familiar to a modern audience is his influence on the arts and crafts movement and the fact that his work is widely copied both in his own lifetime and today.
