Sylvania 12AY7 Vacuum Tube Valve

This Sylvania 12AY7 tube was tested on our Maxi Matcher signal tube tester for shorts, gas and gain. There were no shorts or gas and it tested as follows: Dynamic Range: -85.2 dB / -84.7 dB Transconductance: 1424 / 1413 Gain (mu): 39.6/39.8 where new/nominal is within a standard deviations of 43/43. This tube has beefy 12MM plates, steel support rods and a round, top getter. I have played it in my Bottlehead Crack headphone amplifier as a somewhat-poor 12AU7 substitute and it sounds OK. It is dead quiet when the CD player is paused with no artifacts such as hum and hiss. I do not recommend using 12AY7s in the place of 12AU7s in this device at least; but it is good to know that it has no defects and will acquit itself well where a 12AY7 is called for.
