Dead Ringer Jasper Cabochon
This jasper comes from the Dead Camel Mountains of Western Nevada and belongs to a family of jaspers collectively known as Lahotanite, named for a nearby lake. It's extremely hard and therefore takes an excellent polish. This cab is showing billowing, brush-like formations in a desert palette: earthy, terracotta reds and oranges, with light, dusty pinks. If you look closely, this cab also has tiny fragments of metallic inclusions. Fantastic! A truly gorgeous jasper. I cut this with a sleek, low dome in a semicircle shape.
