Umber & Chalk

Umber, a reddish-brown earth pigment from the Ochre family, is one of the oldest recorded colours whose use can be traced back to cave dwellings. In 1940, when a boy and his dog, Robot, were out walking in Southern France, the dog sniffed out a cave. Accompanied by several friends, the boy fought his way through the undergrowth into a 40 foot shaft, where he discovered a cave decorated with dazzling drawings in Umber and Ochre pigments.
