Cuneiform, one of the earliest writing systems developed by the ancient Sumerians, was not originally designed for writing letters or literary texts. Instead, it was initially created for accounting purposes. The earliest cuneiform tablets, dating back to around 3400 BCE, primarily contain lists and records of goods, transactions, and economic data, reflecting its origins as a tool for managing and documenting trade and resources in ancient Mesopotamia.
