Some of the earliest known depictions of animals, such as those found in the Chauvet Cave in France, display an advanced understanding of motion and perspective. These depictions, dating back around 30,000 to 32,000 years, often use techniques such as superimposing images to suggest movement or using the natural contours of the cave walls to give a three-dimensional effect. This indicates that prehistoric artists had a sophisticated grasp of visual representation far earlier than was once believed.
