By the end of the 1980s, Adidas had long since established themselves as a global icon. It would be completely fair to say that for large swathes of the sportswear buying public, the three stripes were the default option for any active and/or leisure needs. The Adidas Equipment range was established in 1991 as a reaffirmation of the core values, namely Adi Dassler’s lifelong obsession with maximizing athletic performance with specialized footwear, that turned Adidas from a Bavarian family business to, as one of the brand’s old marketing slogans went, “the world’s number one for all sports.” Adidas Equipment was different, right down to the logo, which replaced the classic trefoil with the triangular form stripes that would eventually take over as the default Adidas mark.
