X KICKSLAB GEL LYTE III
While Japanese imagery, in general, has been a longtime fertile ground for visual inspiration in the world of sneakers, Asics and Harajuku based retailer Kicks Lab have reached into a specific area of their country’s history to present a fresh take on the traditional Japanese theme. The Gel Lyte III ‘Hikeshi Hanten’ takes its name and appearance from a traditional Japanese firefighter’s coat. The Gel Lyte III features a combination leather, suede, and textile upper, in a nod to the heavy woven cotton construction of the historical coats. The distinct split tongue of the Gel Lyte III is adorned with the kind of vertically oriented kanji text that were typically embroidered down the lapels of the firefighting garments. Both outsole and insole sport contemporized interpretations of traditional Japanese motifs, from renowned artist Sneakerwolf. If a size is not listed, it is sold out.
