Lydgate Farms is raising the bar for the chocolate industry, for the benefit of our guests, ohana, community, island, and island chain – not to mention the 5 million people around the world that derive their primary income from growing cacao. It may seem like a long shot, but we think it’s plausible. Similar outcomes have been achieved in industries such as fine wine, specialty coffee and craft beer. And, the blueprint is there for us to follow, for example we take direct lessons and inspiration from the Napa Valley Vintners, a trade association formed after prohibition that saw Napa wines become some of the world's most prized, and changed the taste preferences of a generation of global wine critics.  We think that Hawaii, as a part of the US, should take on this role.
