The HitMarker enclosure is completely sealed and waterproof. There are no on/off buttons and it is always ready to go. The batteries never need changing or recharging. The power draw is extremely low and battery life is estimated to be 40-60 thousand hits or 5-10 years.  Following each flash cycle, the light will pause and then blink 3, 2, or 1 times to indicate full, half, or quarter battery life. We've had some for over 3 years and the battery is still reporting full.
