They can be rinsed and reshaped with cool water as needed.  *By law, containers shipped from Africa are fumigated. Other than the fumigation process, the fibers are not treated with any other chemicals. Because these are handcrafted items, each will vary slightly. Care: It's recommended to spray lightly with cold water to reshape baskets.
