Jude was chosen as the patron saint because he was often mistaken for the apostle who betrayed Jesus because they shared the same name. Saint Jude's most famous cure was King Abgar of Edessa around 29 CE. According to legend, the king sent a message to Jesus asking him to come and cure him of his leprosy.
