The most commonly used 3D printing filament today, PLA has a slightly sweet smell when printing. PLA prints at a lower temperature than many other plastics, and produces very fine detail when used with a cooling fan. PLA readily absorbs moisture from the air which can cause unsightly print surfaces when the moisture turns to steam inside the heated nozzle.
