Wired Collar Necklace in Dragonfly
This hand-sculpted collar necklace combines Nature and Art Deco influences to create a captivating look. The piece is made up of three hand-formed half-moons of porcelain, which were connected with a special high-temperature wire during the sculpting process, and fired into place. The glazework was crafted to remind the wearer of a dragonfly in flight. The collar is suspended on an elegant oval link chain and fastens with a spring clasp. 925 Sterling chain and findings.Total necklace length is 18". The porcelain pieces are formed by hand before being fired in a kiln for the first time to the "bisque" stage. As bisque, the clay is still fragile, but is now a bit more durable and won't dissolve if I get it wet. I sand away any initial rough spots, and then apply glazes influenced by color palettes in Nature before firing them to around 2200*F. The kiln can take a couple of days to go from room temperature to 2200*F and back to room temperature. Then I give them a final
