Wind Swept, 2019
Jill Krutick (b. 1962-)Windswept, 2019Acrylic on Canvas 72 x 60 inches Framed Dimensions: 74 x 62 inches Windswept’s marks were created through spontaneous glides of a palette knife atop acrylic molding paste, much like the twirling, organic movements of a gust of wind. Free, unapologetic, and fluid, these airwaves create patterns that are spontaneous and rhythmic. The Swirl Series: The Swirl series grew from Krutick’s interests in creating movement with large gestures on a canvas. The method begins by applying thick layers of oil or acrylic paint into the canvas with dramatic motions. Once applied, the paint is given time to dry. Angles and shapes are then carved and inscribed into the layers using a palette knife, driving the narrative of the piece. Inspired by childhood doodles and her experience in conducting, the Swirl series is an evolution from a playful, musical background into a visual way to communicate rhythmic, lyrical stories.
