C.1870 I Detroit, MI The Sylvia mantel is a sculptural heirloom of Gilded Age Detroit, carved during a time when the city flourished with artistic ambition and architectural grandeur. Crafted from two distinct marbles, warm, veined Sienna and ivory statuary marbles, the piece showcases a refined interplay of tone and texture. Its arched opening is lined with braided carving, crowned by a white cartouche, and flanked by richly layered gadrooning along the outer edges. Circular paneling and romantic proportions reflect the eclectic revival styles of the 19th century. With its autumnal palette of ochre, smoke, and violet veining, Sylvia brings warmth, history, and the quiet richness of fall into the room.
