On rare occasions that maple is in short supply, birch ply may be substituted. All plywood is formaldehyde-free regardless of wood type.  The areas representing the green are raised above the base ply layer and stained your choice of light or dark green. Ponds are cut into the base layer and stained blue.   All roads, text, and icons are laser-engraved and appear dark brown or black.   The frames are made of poplar wood and come in three color choices: walnut, black, or natural.
