196 - Rigoletto, 1985

"Rigoletto" is an embossed serigraph with foil stamping created by Erté in 1985. From the edition of 505, the artwork is signed 'Erté' lower right. The image size is 38 x 31.25". The artwork ships framed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. This serigraph was based on a 1920 gouache costume design for the singer Ganna Walska as Gilda in Verdi's opera 'Rigoletto.' Erté wrote, "Here is Gilda coming out the the Duke's bedroom in tears, dressed in his dressing gown over his shirt." This beautiful design later inspired a bronze sculpture entitled "Rigoletto".
