Hydrangea macrophylla Onyx® Peacock From Eastern Asia, Hydrangea (hortensia) is generally used as a shrub but can occasionally be pruned into a tree. Generally deciduous, its flowers change color based on the soil. The more acidic the soil, the more pink the blooms become. When the soil is alkaline, the flowers turn a bold blue color. Low, rounded to upright, deciduous shrub. The Onyx has blue-purple, "mophead" type flowers in summer which contrasts with the dark stems.  Its foliage is glossy and dark green.
