The Salish Sea Lungs were inspired by the marine life found along the coastline of Boston Harbor in Olympia, WA. If you look down on a calm day you can see the life teeming below the surface- jellyfish and anemone swaying in tandem. The sea life here has offered a very up-close view of what wild nature looks like when it regularly interacts with humans. These lungs take a look at what it means for different species to interact with the same water- human lungs holding space for the life of the sea.  Lung Anatomy: The trachea, bronchi, five lobes of the lungs and the cardiac notch are all present. The painting of the cardiac notch is suggestive of pulmonary tissue.  Canvas: Acrylic on Poplar Wood  Signed Print  Size: 8”x8”
