The name means straight horn, referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid. Labradorite is a feldspar mineral of the plagioclase series that is most often found in mafic igneous rocks. Some Labradorite exhibit a strong play of iridescent blue, green, red, orange, and yellow colors, sometimes called flash.
