The name means straight horn, referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid. Moonstone, like labradorite, is a variety of feldspar mineral. When cut en cabochon it exhibits “adularescence” or “Schiller Effect,” which gives flashes of color to the white stone.
