In 1886 eight large allegorical artworks by Italian artist Tommaso Juglaris were installed in the Capitol's dome. Each work features a female muse representing a virtue of the State of Michigan. Justice, as seen on this paperweight, holds a sword (representing authority) and a set of traditional scales (representing fairness). The paperweight is round and measures 3 1/2" wide.
