Tea Cup 1
Inspired by Japanese yunomi (tea cups), these vessels are a warm, tactile way to enjoy oolong, green tea, or any favorite drink. Wood has the wonderful benefit of not getting too hot to hold in your hand. Each cup is made with a combination of hand carving and lathe turning, using premium sugar maple salvaged from a local veneer mill, wood otherwise destined for the burn pile. The cups are turned while still green (wet), so as they dry they settle into subtly asymmetrical forms, accented by gently undulating carved rims. Finished with a natural oil that performs beautifully in daily use.
