One-off color trials from my finish experimentation. Inspired by Japanese yunomi (tea cup), these cups are a perfect way to enjoy your favorite oolong, green tea, or any other beverage. A nice benefit of being made from wood is that the cup doesn't get too hot to hold in hand. Made with a combination of hand carving and turning on a lathe. I salvage premium sugar maple from a local veneer mill, saving this special wood from the burn pile. They are turned while still green (wet) and therefore dry into unique asymmetrical forms, accentuated by subtle undulating carved rims. These cups have a kiln cured natural oil finish that performs very well.
