• 11"X14"• ARCHIVAL QUALITY GICLEE PRINT• OPEN EDITION While researching animals, meanings, and symbols I came across various indigenous origin stories that told how the turtle is said to have carried the weight of the land on her back as a symbol of carrying mother earth and holding the balance. I've loved reading these stories and couldn't go a day longer without illustrating my own reminder. As described in the Canadian Encyclopedia, "Turtle Island speaks to various spiritual beliefs about creation and for some, the turtle is a marker of identity, culture, autonomy and a deeply-held respect for the environment."
