Today we continue the Celebrations! Ofrendas with Marigolds and various flowers and colorful designs, and images of the deceased, to welcome them into our home, and the grand feast begins! Though a common site today, La Calavera Catrina, or La Calavera Garbancera started a sketch in a newspaper by Mexican Printmaker and Illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada in the 1910s. She was originally made to mock the Mexican citizens who had, what he thought at the time, was a silly fascination for European fashion and culture. Nowadays, we just call them Euroboos lol, but since hen, La Calavera Catrinas and Catrins center more on Mexican fashion and beauty, and its always fun to paint our loveable Rita as the Sugar Sweetheart of the Dead.
