These substrate bags come ready to use. Simply add your desired grain spawn and allow to colonize. Inoculation with grain spawn (grain that's been colonized with your chosen fungus) is highly recommended. We do not recommend inoculating with agar or liquid culture.  You can purchase a grain bag here to make your own grain spawn first! Supplemented hardwood substrates are ideal for wood lovers like Lions Mane, Maitake, Oysters and many others. We use a 50/50 mix of Oak Hardwood and Soybean Hulls in our substrate bags. Our substrate contains the perfect amount of water for awesome flushes.  This 50/50 recipe of soybean hulls and sawdust often been referred to as Master's Mix as named by T.R.
