Quatrefoil: An ornamental design of four lobes or leaves as used in architectural tracery, resembling a flower or four-leaf clover.   From Nick: Quatrefoils were often incorporated into the architectural design of churches and cathedrals in the gothic period 1150-1450 AD. There's something about them that fascinates me. When they're part of a larger theme I find myself transfixed, with my eyes drawn to the quatrefoils. The cathedrals themselves are not only historic, not only incredible feats of engineering, but just captivating. The high vaulted ceilings, the ribs that also double as structural support. The immense detail and craftsmanship packed into the building itself. It's a perfect blend of form and function. One that is unmatched (in my opinion) today. As a smith there's no way I could look upon these buildings and not appreciate them. As the person I am, there's no way I study these structures and not feel inspired.
