The Thorn

This was a hard one for us to name. Internally we refer to this ring as "Texas" because the shape of it reminds us all of the state in the US. From a distance the piece also reminds us of thorns. Particularly the crown that Jesus is depicted wearing in the Christian faith. From Nick: Religion is still a vulnerable spot for me as it was implicated in almost every act of abuse I experienced in the cult. It's never my goal to force beliefs on another person— not after what I've been through. With all of this considered there's something beautiful and symbolic about the thorns. Blacksmithing is in part a labor of love, one that beats your body up. The rose is beautiful and as anyone who's ever fallen into a rose bush knows, a bit prickly. Maybe there's a metaphor in there somewhere. Not every piece is tied together neatly with a perfect description.
