They are the most common and most widely used composting worm. They are very easy to manage, multiply at an extreme rate if space and food materials are available. And are very tolerant of a wide range of temperatures, and can process organic matter very fast. They can be used as a bait worm when a smaller worm is desired, i.e. approximately 3 inches, they are known for their vigorous wiggling while on the hook. They also make a great supplemental food source high in protein for fish, reptiles, and birds.
