Utagawa Kunisada Diptych of a kabuki play by Kunisada. Scene of the famous otokodate or street knight Banzui Chobei encountering the outlaw Shirai Gompachi. After the pair meet at Suzu-ga-Mori and Gonpachi fights off a gang trying to capture him for the reward, Chobei hands him a letter from a messenger that has fallen on the ground. It is a warrant for his arrest. Chobei holds a lantern up over him, a plaid robe draped over his shoulder. Ichimura Uzaemon as Shirai Gonpachi.
