Lacquer vs Wax Potting: Both are used to seal the wire to avoid microphonic noises and squeals. Wax potting takes 10 to 15 minutes to allow the wax to completely penetrate the pickup. This eliminates all microphonic noise and squeals. Lacquer potting is a quick dip to seal the outside of the pickup wires and does not penetrate completely.
