This exceptional Tiwanaku (Tiahuanaco) polychrome pottery head vessel, dating from the Middle Horizon Period (400–1000 CE), is a rare and striking representation of ancient Andean artistry. The vessel is sculpted in the form of a highly stylized human head, featuring bold facial features, including a prominent nose, deeply set eyes, and angular geometric patterns that define the contours of the face. The vessel’s form and decoration reflect the Tiwanaku culture's emphasis on religious and ceremonial symbolism.Painted with a vibrant polychrome palette of red, white, and black, the surface is adorned with intricate abstract designs, including zigzags, circles, and linear motifs.
