The reverse depicts a somewhat lean eagle which led some to nickname the coin the “buzzard dollar.” Morgan Silver Dollars underwent numerous design changes during their 43-year production span. Both the arrow feathers and the eagle's tail feathers on the reverse especially received many subtle yet definitive revisions and as such, spawned an incredible number of Morgan Dollar varieties (VAM types) making these brilliant cartwheels an avid collector's dream.The Morgan Dollar was designed by Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan (1845-1925) and was minted from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921.
