Georgian Beautiful large Sterling Silver Cake Basketby a rare female silversmith, Hester Bateman, London, England, with date mark (small case u) 1795-96.Sterling cake baskets were used on dining tables to display cakes, Breads & Fruits.The Cake Basket is in the classic Oval Shape, with a hinged reeded handle. (Handle will stand upright if one wishes) A cock beaded border above reticulated edges,with matching reticulated and beaded oval foot.Floral Garland Designs with an Armorial Crestof a rampant Horse standing on a Crown.All sterling parts are fully marked even the underside of the handle.Condition: Beautiful original condition with wear to the silver marks, a few minor repairs and small dents on the reticulated border.
