The fork  & knife set are decorated with cut out designs of swirling motifs.  The set is marked with 1850s hallmarks for English Sterling Silver: -Profile silhouette of Queen Victoria, Sheffield mark -Crown, The Sheffield Assay Office symbol -R, date mark -Lion Passant, Sterling mark -"MH & Co." shield, Martin, Hall & Co. 1850s mark *Important note: In 1854 the company entered into the partnership Richard Martin and Joshua Hall under the style Martin, Hall & Co. (In 1866 the firm was converted into a Ltd.) **There are also later marks for Israel Freeman & Son (also Sheffield, England) Working in London at the beginning of the 20th century and moving to New York City in the 1920s.
