Made of porcelain, silver, copper, brass, pewter, tortoiseshell, ivory or wood, they were exported from China into England as tea service grew in popularity. In the late 18th century, larger tea caddies were made. Wood became the most popular of materials, decorative elements applied and inlaid with exotic woods.
