Common carp (Cyprinus carpio), possibly one of the most familiar freshwater fish in the world, are originally native to Europe but can now be found across the globe.  In America carp are popular amongst many recreational fishermen while considered a trash fish by others. In Europe they are highly coveted by sport fishermen and in Asia common carp are the most commonly aquacultured food fish. Despite their global popularity, wild common carp aren’t commonly seen for sale within the US aquarium hobby.
